Shirley Howard

Shirley Howard began painting in oils at the early age of fourteen. Later she was instructed in oil painting by local artists, Muriel Newton-White and Carolyn MacArthur. She then took on the challenge of watercolour and attended many workshops through JSANO arts education programme, Kirkland Lake and the Cobalt Artists’ Colony. Shirley also works in other media, such as the pen and ink, Midnight Swinger as well as watercolour and collage, B is for Blueberries in the TAG collection. Shirley is a member of the Englehart Area Artists and NOAA. She has exhibited in many group shows and has had her work regularly chosen for NOAA juried exhibitions. Midnight Swinger among other work of hers was selected for the Temiskaming Art Gallery annual calendar exhibition. Shirley is a native of Englehart and still resides there.

Shirley Howard s’est mise à la peinture à l’huile dès l’âge de quatorze ans. Plus tard elle a étudié la peinture à l’huile sous la direction des artistes locaux Muriel Newton-White et Carolyn MacArthur. Puis elle a décidé de relever le défi de l’aquarelle en s’inscrivant à plusieurs ateliers organisés par le programme d’éducation artistique JSANO, Kirkland Lake, et la Colonie d’artistes de Cobalt. Elle travaille aussi dans d’autres disciplines, comme en fait foi le dessin à l’encre Midnight Swinger [Le Noceur de minuit] de la collection de la GAT. Shirley est membre du club d’art d’Englehart et des environs et de l’AANO. Elle a participé à plusieurs expositions de groupe et ses œuvres figurent régulièrement dans les expositions-concours de l’AANO. Midnight Swinger a été sélectionné pour l’exposition qui accompagne le lancement annuel du calendrier de la Galerie d’art du Témiskaming. Shirley est native d’Englehart qu’elle habite toujours.
