Karyn Kulyk’s painting in the collection, By Kew Garden is a typical of her use of strong vibrant colour and simple forms. Although her home and studio is in Hamilton, she has lived and worked as a professional artist in many parts of the world. She began and ran the Seedlings gallery in Toronto in the 70’s, and then joined the Marianne Friedland Gallery in 1975. She won the Grollo d’Oro for her work at the Treviso International Art competition in Italy, 1983. Karen has had an extensive professional career in art for over 30 years. The Art Gallery of Ontario toured her exhibition, Colourscapes on Paper throughout Ontario in 1982 and 83. In 1984 she was the first Canadian artist to show at the Chicago International Art Exposition. She also has exhibited in New York and Los Angeles. She was artist-in-residence and later Foundation Professor at the Khon Kaen University in Thailand and was the first Canadian to exhibit at that country’s National Gallery. She has also painted and exhibited in numerous other countries including England, France, Italy, Bermuda, Venezuela and Mexico as well as Canada. Her work is in private and corporate collections as well as museums around the world.
