Hello! For today's art activity I wanted to look at some simple origami, specifically boats and planes. The weekend is upon us and the forecast is for clear skies ahead. Along with this beautiful late March sun comes melting, puddle and streams all around! I have always enjoyed this time of year. I like listening to the birds returning after their long migration and feeling the warm sun on my skin as I play in the melting snow. Creating streams and dams down the driveway is still one of my favorite things to do. For even more fun you can try racing floating objects down your stream! Today I wanted to share with you a basic origami boat pattern that you could use for your race. This is a classic piece of origami and is a great way to introduce younger audiences to this art form. If playing in the puddles isn't for you what about take taking to the skies? The next link I have is to TriKdanG's youtube page. He is a professional paper airplane and origami designer and has excellent tutorials on his page. I have included the link to his channel as many of his creations were so good that I couldn't pick just one. The third link is to an instructional video by John Collins, the Paper Airplane Guy, on how to build 5 awesome paper airplanes including a boomerang plane, tumbling wing, a bat plane as well as his world-record-holding distance airplane! Create as many designs as you like and test them out yourself to see which ones you like best. I hope you enjoy creating and playing together on this sunny weekend. That's it for now. Have a great day folks. Toon in Monday for another great art/craft idea.
Sincerely; Your friendly neighbourhood art gallery
