Happy April Fools Day! April Fool's Day was created in France when King Charles IX of France changed New Year's Day from April 1st to January 1st, people who still observed the old calendar were known as “April Fools”. The French celebrate April Fool's Day with a prank/game involving putting a paper fish on someone's back. This fish is known as the poisson d’avril. There are a few theories as to how this tradition started. Take some time with your family to do a mini research project looking into the origins of this tradition. I have also included a few links to some ‘poisson d’avril’ crafts Including a surprise drawing, a funny fish clothespin puppet, and a fortune teller. You can adapt your fortune teller to include jokes inside instead of someone's fortune. There is a YouTube video on how to fold your fortune teller AKA cootie catcher as well as a completed template to La cocotte d’Avril that is ready to print. I hope you enjoy these playful pranks and activities with your family!
That's it for now. Have a great day folks. Toon in tomorrow for another great art/craft idea.
Sincerely; Your friendly neighbourhood art gallery.
