Although born in Southern Ontario, she lived most of her life in Timmins, Ontario, a town she loved. Drawing and painting were favorite activities since childhood. She enthusiastically attended many workshops, painting holidays and art courses in Montreal (studying with Arthur Lismer and Jacques de Tonnancoeur), France and Northern College as well as night classes at the Edinburgh Royal School.
She worked in acrylics and oils, but watercolours were her favorite medium and her favoured subjects were always landscapes and floral studies. Her favourite flower was the Amarylis, partly because it is so challenging to paint. She had numerous solo and joint exhibitions and her work has been shown in countless juried exhibitions.

She attended one of the first Cobalt Artists' Colonies, which featured the late and great artist and OCA teacher Gus Weisman. She served on the NOAA for 12 years as Director and then as President.
She wrote about being an artist in northern Ontario. "I value the care and advice among artists from various northern communities. The willingness to share knowledge and techniques and the friendships have encouraged me to keep painting. I have always considered painting a real pleasure, a bit therapeutic and sometimes, but not always, satisfying."
Artist, adventurer, book lover, weaver, nature lover, hiker, canoeist, skier, educator, world traveler, animal lover and avid Scrabble player, Evelyn Rymer lived life to the fullest.
