Biographies > Joyce Hughes
Joyce Hughes’ acrylic painting in the TAG collection captures the feeling of Cobalt mine ruins as living monuments. Joan was never formally trained in art, but has always pursued it part-time. She was born in 1929 in London, Ontario. She moved to North Bay in 1960 and in the seventies started painting and teaching in association with the North Bay Art Association. She also taught art for two years in Labrador from1971 to 73. Like many northern artists she was a staunch promoter of art in the region and served as president of the NOAA for four years. She attended the Cobalt Artists’ Colony for over ten years and has exhibited her work across Canada.
