Biographies > Alice Sawicki

Alice is a self-taught artist from Chamberlain Township. She loves watercolours and also works in oils, acrylics and inks. She finds art relaxing and says it is like slipping into another world. She lives in the country near Englehart and the landscape around her is the main subject and inspiration of much of her work.

Alice is a northern Ontario native. She has enjoyed art most of her life. She joined the Kirkland Lake Art Club in 1980 and was one of the founding members of Englehart Area Artists in 1989 and was elected President, a position she held for over 15 years. Alice is now an active member of the Temiskaming Palette and Brush Club and is its NOAA representative. She has also earned her NOAA letters. As well as attending numerous workshops to develop her art, she teaches art locally to groups and individuals of all ages. She has exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions, including the Temiskaming Art Gallery, Museum of Northern History and Englehart Museum as well as her work being selected for several juried NOAA annual exhibitions. Her work is in many private and corporate collections in northern Ontario and the United States, including Ontario Northland Railway, Museum of Northern History and Veteran Affairs Building in Kirkland Lake.

Being an artist in northern Ontario.  I have often wondered what it is like in other parts of the world.  Then I would be out looking for places to paint and realize how very fortunate I am here in my own small part of the world.  The vastness of the sky…awesome valleys…, fields of wild flowers, beautiful trees…, farms, homes and animals.  During the winter months there are scenes of snow covered landscapes… Different times of the day bring different …moments to capture before they are gone.  …I am grateful for …being able to appreciate my surroundings…How can one not be influenced?  Art is like a life-line into the future…capturing memories…When you paint your own scene you put your heart and soul into that moment…
